A digital place for people who access services, carers, staff and partner agencies, to share ideas around care co-ordination & care planning in mental health

AndriaHello, my name is Andria and I have been seconded to the trust from the University of York, to advise and lead on projects aimed at improving different aspects of clinical care. I may have met some of you over the past year, out and about working on different projects.

Back in the spring, I asked for feedback from staff, service-users and carers regarding the challenges to improving/receiving physical health care. I received a good response, and summarised the issues raised in a diagram. The information you provided was used to develop recommendations for how physical health care can be improved across the trust, addressing the various challenges. The recommendations included the need for a single place to record physical health care on PARIS, the need for staff training and education regarding the importance of physical health care and how to provide it, service-user awareness raising, and that needs specific to learning disabilities are addressed. The final report was discussed at the trust ‘Effective Care’ meeting in September and the recommendations now form the work plan for the ‘Improving Physical Health Task and Finish group’.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback and suggestions. For reference, a copy of the final diagram summarising the barriers can be found here, and the final report, here.

Andria Hanbury, Associate for Evidence-Based Improvement
